Imagine if you discovered that the Shire is a real place. Would it be everything you hoped it would be? Or would you expect it to be darker, and more sinister? What would you sacrifice to find out the truth?
Winterset Hollow is one of the most unique concepts for a story I’ve encountered in a long while. The story is told beautifully, with many passages begging to be read again to soak in the truth and humanity of the characters and the situation they find themselves in. The most remarkable piece of this journey is the story within the story. Jonathan Durham created a piece of writing that the human characters love and revere – and it’s written so beautifully that I wish it was an entire standalone volume.
The writing paints a clear picture of the action as well, and you can believe that the author has walked in these shoes and experienced every fear, anguish, and hope of these characters and recorded them faithfully. For action, surprises, twists and turns, and a unique telling of an old theme, I highly recommend Winterset Hollow.
